Where history, hospitality, & heart meet

The story of Bathurst Goldfields

Here at Bathurst Goldfields Resort, we’re a proud family business, kept alive by locals who care deeply about this place. Many of our team have been working here for many years, with even Michael, one of our much-loved guides, who has been sharing stories with visitors for nearly 50 years. This place has seen many chapters, and we’re proud to be writing the one unfolding now.

Our Mission

With a respectful nod to the past and a deep care for the land around us, we’re committed to delivering experiences worth sharing - the kind that turn into stories told over dinner tables and campfires.

Our Values

1

Country hospitality

We pride ourselves on offering a warm, country welcome — where every guest is met with genuine care, authenticity, and down-to-earth service.

2

Thoughtful quality

We take pride in doing things well — not for show, but because it matters. From our service to our spaces, we value detail, care, and creating experiences that feel considered and lasting.

3

Person-centred

Whether it’s our team, our guests, or our local community — people are at the centre of everything we do. We believe when our staff feel supported, proud, and happy in their work, that care flows naturally into every guest experience. It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels valued and happy.

4

Respect for place

We’re deeply connected to the land we’re part of — from preserving natural spaces and local wildlife to honouring the site’s history. We tread lightly and look after what’s been here long before us.

Our History

Bathurst Goldfields has had many lives, each shaped by the people, the land, and the community around it. From its beginnings to becoming a much-loved destination for school camps, weddings, and events, it has always been a place of learning, gathering, relaxing and celebration.

The beginning

Bathurst Goldfields began its life as a gathering place, first used by a local church group as a retreat and community hub. Set on the slopes of Mount Panorama, the land has always been a place for people to come together, share stories, and find connection. Its bushland setting and ties to Bathurst’s Gold Country heritage made it a natural home for reflection, learning, and celebration.

Growing through the years

Over time, the Goldfields grew into a destination for education, accommodation, and events. The Colonial Re-enactment Village was established to bring the 1800s gold rush era to life, hosting thousands of school students each year for hands-on learning. Accommodation lodges, cabins, and motels were added, along with function spaces that welcomed weddings, and community celebrations.

2025 and beyond

Current day

Goldfields Resort, the property continues to be many things to many people: a place to learn, to celebrate, to stay, and to connect. No two days ever look the same. Some mornings begin with the chatter and laughter of children spilling off buses for school camps that bring colonial Australia to life in our re-enactment village and education programs. Other days, the kitchen hums as chefs prepare for a gala dinner, or our team sets the stage for a wedding. And sometimes, it’s simply a couple checking in for a quiet weekend escape or a family gathering for a reunion.

Building on strong foundations

With renovations to accommodation rooms, event facilities and outdoor gathering spaces, Steve, Sue and the team are building on the Goldfields’ heritage foundations by breathing new life into spaces that had grown a little tired, and making them welcoming, comfortable, and ready for the future.

Connection to Bathurst - History, Heritage & Heart

Bathurst is often called ‘Gold Country’, as it’s the place where Australia’s first payable gold was discovered in 1851 and the birthplace of the nation’s very first gold rush. That history still shapes the town today, and it flows through everything we do at the Goldfields. We’re honoured to keep that legacy alive, sharing stories and helping new generations learn about this town and regions history through educational programs and camps aligned with the NSW curriculum and our 1800s Colonial Re-enactment Village.

But Bathurst’s story doesn’t stop there. The region is also world-famous for motor racing, with Mount Panorama home to the Bathurst 1000, a 1,000-kilometre touring car race that attracts fans from around the globe. Our resort sits right on Conrod Straight, part of the iconic circuit itself, and every year we welcome guests who stay with us to be at the very heart of the action.

Goldfields Reenactment Village

One of the true treasures of our property is the Goldfields Re-Enactment Village.Generations of school children have wandered its dusty paths, panned for specks of gold, and stepped inside huts that feel frozen in the 1800s. Even now, locals tell us they still remember the smell of woodsmoke, the clang of the blacksmith, and the thrill of finding a shiny flake in the pan, memories that linger long after camp is over. That’s what makes this place special: it’s not just a village, it’s a living story, carried forward with every visit.
