Bathurst might only be a few hours from Sydney, but the moment you arrive, you’ll feel a world away. Big skies, rolling hills, and that unmistakable country air, it’s all waiting for you. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape, coming to celebrate a wedding, or heading to one of Bathurst’s many events, here’s how to make the journey smooth and stress-free.
Getting here
- By car: From Sydney, it’s about a three-hour drive along the Great Western Highway, winding through the Blue Mountains. From Canberra, it’s around 3.5 hours - the perfect excuse for a road trip, windows down and snacks at the ready.
- By train: NSW TrainLink services run daily from Central Station to Bathurst. Settle in, sip a coffee, and let the countryside roll by your window.
- By plane: The nearest airport is Orange Regional Airport, which is about a 40-minute drive away.
- By coach: Long-distance buses also link Bathurst with Sydney, Orange, and beyond. A no-fuss option if you’d rather let someone else do the driving.
Getting around once you’re here
- Car hire: Handy if you’re keen to chase waterfalls, wander vineyards, or explore nearby gold rush history.
- Taxis & ride share: Available in town, but book ahead if you’re visiting during a big event. Walking & cycling: Bathurst’s heart is easy to stroll, and hiring a bike to ride along the river or even around Mount Panorama is a must-do for bragging rights.
- Shuttles & charters: A great option if you’d rather not think about logistics.
